An HDR from a single JPEG exposure. Image made for November/December's the state of the planet competition called eARThproject featuring Pollution ...[link] hosted by k-lenx.

The negligence and inaction of the Australian State governments has allowed the Nation's rivers to be raped and stolen.

When I was a kid the mighty Snowy River was 100 metres wide during the thaw or with huge pristine sandy banks in late summer, when the water level dropped. Not the weed infestations that are now seen.

The Snowy was one of the great roaring rivers. The huge sculptured river rocks will attest to that.

The sound of being beside the Snowy was a wonderful scary experience when I was young ... even 20 years ago the snowy was still impressive ... then the water was privatised where it now sits in reservoirs and just evaporates. New water entering the Alps river systems gets carried along in either aquaducts and tunnels to keep it going around in circles, for use by power companies, nowadays.

The Snowy River is at 1/2% of its old seasonal flow and the weeds have now taken over the sandy beaches. This is the pollution.

Our governments found huge amounts of money for the commercial banks within days of a supposed monetary crisis to guarantee their viabilities? ... I know of more important banks that need more serious investments, for the long term wealth of this Nation.

Warren.

Thankyou Majkla for taking the time to comment. I'm glad that you managed to see this image.

Obviously my image has been seen by the right person.

All the best and take care.

It's the calm before the storm
And I don't know
If I'll be here when the lightning flashes,
Gone before the thunder crashes.

Thankyou.

The Snowy River is my favourate place in the mountains. Travelling the length of the Snowy River below Lake Jindabyne is one of the most beautiful road trips that can be undertaken in SE Australia. The road the Barry Way is 95% dirt and hugs the river almost all the way until the river reaches the sea. I can only average 40kph over the Barry Way in my Volvo.

I'll post more shots of what the mountains and wilderness are like, it is very hard country.

This is gorgeous. I love the shots you're able to get down there.

Jennifer, thankyou.

I suppose I'm lucky that no one else is here during the times I'm off work. I can go for days without seeing anyone, apart from my family. I think it is the peace and tranquility that fosters the images.

I'm very lucky to live in a region of SE Oz that is surrounded by 7 wilderness regions, 13 national parks, a World Biosphere region called the Australian Alps, 1 world heritage region 'The Greater Blue Mountaind World Heritage Park', many state forests, primitive reserves, recrestion reserves and one strange reserve called a ';Primitive Area' by State Forestry, which has me somewhat confused because it is all primitive trackless country here, where I like to go ... and within a few hours drive.
