Life on the Turon

Spending time down on the Turon River, around the small towns of Hill End and Sofala, is the most fun I could wish for.

The Turon Goldfields are lovely to be on, looking at the diggings, getting very muddy doing a bit of prospecting in the jet black clay that everyone else avoids (a good tip from a geologist friend), being lost in the labrynth of eroded gullies and abandoned mines or just sitting under a river oak wondering which rock next to go and put the dentist tools into a crack of, looking for small bits of colour (another good tip when looking for gold in areas that have already been well worked).

You might only see a person or two in the course of a week down on the Turon, if you're not spending too much time in the pubs of Sofala and Hill End, that is.
