An old logging track in the Antactic Beech forest, above the Allyn River. A forest of silent antiquity from Gondwana past. The Barrington Tops Wilderness.
The Barrington Tops seems hardly a wilderness, being so small ... but the Barrington Tops is a wilderness and the streams running over the Mount Williams and Mount Carey escarpments are the headwaters of the Hunter River.
The ancient wet forests of the Allyn River are great places to visit ... if the leeches let you.
Marina, thank you. I'm pleased that you like the photograph.
This old forest is very beautiful. It is the only Beech forest on mainland Australia. In Autumn here, very few of our trees loose their leaves or change to spectacular colours. There is little benefit in shooting colour in these very dark forests ... black and white works well.
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.

This Beech forest is a very dark temperate forest. Very little light makes it through the canopy to the forest floor.
Old forests like this take a long time to regenerate after they have been disturbed by loggers.
