There Was Once a River

'There Was Once a River' ... that has now been diverted to a shallow storage dam called Googong Dam, where it just now evaporates. The power company ACTEWAGL likes to look at its growing water supply ... which I (once) liked to look at.

The sandy (once) river channel isn't weed infested yet ... but give it a month or two ... there will be more weeds choking the soon to be dry river bed, than you can poke a stick at.

It is very sad to have lost the natural flow of the once mighty Murrumbidgee River to a shallow water storage facility. We've lost a meaningful river near our home but over the State border, the graziers and irrigators have potentially lost their livelihoods.

Charles Sturt was an early explorer. In 1829 he charted the Murrumbidgee River. We live a stone's throw from 'Camp Sturt' where Charles Sturt first started his expedition.

Nowadays Sturt couldn't float ya' boat diddly squat, to do the expedition on water because there is not enough. [link]
